Establishment and Early Years
The Actuarial Society of Türkiye was established in 1951 by 12 actuaries under the name “Türkiye Aktüerler Cemiyeti”.
Resumption of Activities
After closing in 1980, the Society resumed its activities in 1981 under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Kenan Ural and the name “Aktüerler Derneği”.
International Memberships
The Actuarial Society of Türkiye is a full member of the International Actuarial Association (IAA) and the Actuarial Association of Europe (AAE).
Representation in Scientific Publishing
The Actuarial Society of Türkiye is represented on the publishing committee of the European Actuarial Journal (EAJ), one of the world’s leading scientific journals.
Establishment of Our Society
Thirty-seven years after the establishment of the Casualty Actuarial and Statistical Society of America in the United States, an important step was taken for the profession in Türkiye: 12 actuaries came together to establish “Türkiye Aktüerler Cemiyeti”.
Resumption of Our Society’s Activities

First Application to the International Actuarial Association (IAA)
Following a resolution adopted at the Board of Directors meeting on 13 August 1991, the first steps were taken towards membership of the International Actuarial Association (IAA), based in Belgium.
Publication of the Regulation on Actuaries
The Regulation on Actuaries issued by the Undersecretariat of Treasury on 15 August 2007 required insurance companies to work with at least one actuary. This regulation further increased the role of the actuarial profession in the insurance sector.
Our Society’s Admission as an Observer Member of the AAE
The application for observer membership of the Actuarial Association of Europe (AAE) was assessed and accepted in September 2009. The AAE was established in 1978 as the Groupe Consultatif to bring actuarial associations together within the European Union and represent the profession in discussions on European Union legislation. It brings together 36 actuarial associations from 33 European countries.
Mandatory Actuarial Training
The Mandatory Actuarial Training programme, launched in 2012 and delivered periodically, is conducted jointly with SEGEM.
First Contact with the European Actuarial Journal (EAJ)
Our Society, which has joined the European Actuarial Journal (EAJ), one of the world’s leading scientific journals, is represented on its publishing committee by our members.
Our Society’s Admission as a Full Member of the IAA
The Actuarial Society of Türkiye’s application for full membership of the International Actuarial Association (IAA) has been accepted. Founded in 1895, the IAA aims to enhance the influence of the actuarial profession worldwide and support the development of actuaries’ technical competence. The Association has seven sections and 17 committees; our Society is represented on these committees by our members.
Our Membership
As of May 2018, our Society has 155 members, including nine honorary members.
Full Membership of the Actuarial Association of Europe (AAE)
Negotiations for full membership of the Actuarial Association of Europe (AAE) are expected to be completed in 2019. At the meetings held in Copenhagen on 20–22 September 2017, the AAE Education Committee expressed favourable views on the equivalence of Türkiye’s actuarial education system and the AAE education syllabus.
Hosting the International Congress of Actuaries
We continue our work towards hosting the 2030 International Congress of Actuaries in Türkiye. The Congress is organised every four years by the International Actuarial Association (IAA), of which we are a member.
